No insurance after direct debit missed

When a 21-year-old man was stopped while driving in Banbridge it was discovered his insurance had been cancelled because a direct debit had not been paid.

Linas Paulauskas, Newcastle Road, Kilkeel, was fined £200 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for driving while uninsured on August 19 this year.

He was also given six points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 2am he was stopped while driving on the Rathfriland Road, Banbridge, and he produced a policy of insurance.

However it had been cancelled due to a non payment.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had only missed one monthly payment. The solicitor explained his client had no previous convictions and it was a genuine misunderstanding on his part.
