No insurance fine and ban

A PORTRUSH woman, who allowed an uninsured learner driver to use her car, has been disqualified from driving for a week and fined £250.

Margaret Law (31) of Glenmanus Village, appeared at North Antrim Magistrates' Court last Wednesday to answer the charge of permitting no insurance.

The court heard that on April 23 police officers observed a black Ford Ka being driven in a suspicious manner at Lisadell Avenue in Portstewart.

They stopped the vehicle, which was being driven by Keith Millar (32) of Aghermore Mews, who admitted he was not insured to drive the vehicle.

Miss Law, who was in the passenger seat told officers the car was hers and that she had permitted Mr Millar to drive it.

A solicitor said that Mr Millar has been planning to take his driving test and that Miss Law had offered to take him out in her car without thinking about insurance.

The solicitor added that the defendant immediately changed her policy to include Mr Millar following the incident.

District Judge, Mr Archer, also fined Millar 250 and gave him six penalty points.
