Despite job adverts appearing on social media site, KFC quashed rumours that it was looking to move into Banbridge claiming it was part of their Christmas drive, when stores recruit further afield for roles.

But 15 local jobs are on the way with ambitious plans to turn the industrial units behind Tesco Extra at The Outlet Business Park into a trampoline park, in a £300,000 investment. It comes as a new facility, Golf Nation, also opens its doors at the Outlet.

Planning Service approved the plans for the indoor trampoline facility, with a soft play area, a café and a fitness studio which will fill vacant units at the Outlet Business Park.

The application for the new leisure facility had been submitted under the name of Sports Academy Jump Warehouse.

Initially planners considered the proposal did not comply with Banbridge’s development plan for the area as the units were to be used for the industrial sector.

However, it was given approval for five years, given the ‘unique circumstances associated with the proposal’.

The proposal was brought before the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s planning committee recently.

An agent for the applicant said the proposal, would need permanent planning permission however, planners argued that a five-year temporary approval condition could overcome any material harm to the medium to long-term objectives set out in the Banbridge, Newry and Mourne Area Plan 2015. Councillors heard that a similar scheme to this one, We Are Vertigo at Cedarhurst Business Park, Newtownbreda, has been previously approved.

However, similar to Banbridge, approval was only given on a temporary basis.

A number of conditions were placed on the temporary planning approval in that no music shall be played within the premises at any time and the doors to the back of the building should remain shut at all times.

These were imposed to safeguard the living conditions of residents on the Bannview Road.
