No licence, insurance or MOT certificate

Even though he had owned a car for at least four weeks a 27-year-old man had not registered the car in his name.

He was also caught driving it without a licence, insurance and a vehicle test certificate.

Denis Doyle, Iveagh Crescent, Rathfriland, was fined £200 and banned from driving for nine months last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for the no insurance offence. A concurrent nine month ban and a £100 fine were imposed for not having a licence.

He was also fined £100 for no test certificate and £100 for failing to notify a change of ownership.

The court heard that on February 23 this year police in the square at Rathfriland saw a vehicle which checks revealed had no insurance or test certificate.

They saw it leaving Rathfriland in the direction of Loughbrickland and when it returned to Iveagh Crescent they seized the car.

The test certificate had expired and the car had not been registered in the name of the defendant although he had owned it for at least four weeks.

A barrister representing the defendant said he had bought the car in the hope of getting a licence. He did not have the vehicle now.
