No Longer Neon!

2013 looks set to be an exciting year for one musical Ballymoney duo.

Producer and songwriter Elvin David and singer/songwriter Pete Hughes are on the verge of releasing their very first single as 80s themed band No Longer Neon.

Elvin has already enjoyed success producing singles for the likes of Hollyoaks actress Abi Phillips and America’s singer rapper TQ (Westside fame) not to mention remixing for some top industry names,

Speaking exclusively to the Times, Elvin explained the ideas behind this new project and the excitement surrounding the release of the first single which will be available online worldwide through Itunes in a matter of weeks.

“No Longer Neon is simply an artistic channel for myself and Pete Hughes to write and produce songs that are relevant to all of us i.e. human emotions, factors that make us human, be that love, conflict or loss,” he said.

“We simply write about what we feel about many different life topics whether it is personal to ourselves or how we see others.

“The name suggests that it is no longer..neon. Neon is representative of 80’s culture from clothing to music videos, our sound is heavily influenced by the 80’s but with a contemporary sound hence it has moved forward and no longer as we recall.

“2012 was a very busy year both personally and professionally with laying the foundations for this project and productively it couldn’t have gone any better.

“Since starting to work with Pete Hughes, the vision of No Longer Neon quickly came into focus and in just under one year we have written an album which is close to completion, achieved the image we desired for ourselves and shot our first music video which is quite an achievement.

“Many said it would never be possible but here we are and I’m already immensely proud of what we have achieved to date, I would like to give a huge thanks to many of the local people and close friends who helped us immensely with the production of our first video and I will have a full list of names under the thanks section online once our website launches in the next few weeks. To those people we are so grateful!”

There is no doubt that the 80s have heavily influenced the sound of No Longer Neon as Pete’s vocal sound is reminiscent of David Bowie/Phil Oakey and the production and sound palette have an instantly familiar feel.
