No money for rail halts; essential safety on line is our focus

TRANSLINK has no money to build rail halts at Downhill and Portstewart and is focused on carrying out essential safety works on the track over the next two years.

Rail Minister Danny Kennedy said a budget had been secured for the safety maintenance but that there were no plans for rail halts along the line.

SDLP MLA John Dallat asked the Minister if he had any plans to provide a rail halt at Culmore, Portstewart; and Downhill, Castlerock.

He replied: “Translink do not have provision within their current Capital Plan for a rail halt at Culmore, Portstewart and (Downhill, Castlerock.

“There are no current plans for such halts to be developed within existing budgets as agreed at Executive level. Translink’s priority at this point is to ensure essential safety works are carried out between Coleraine and Londonderry over the next two years. Budgetary provision has been secured for this project.”
