No pay increase for Council staff

THE National Employers have informed Ballymoney Borough Council that they are 'unable to offer any increase in pay for 2010/11'.

The news was revealed during a recent Corporate and Central Services meeting held at Riada House recently.

The report explained: “As members are aware, extensive consultations and discussions have been taking place in response to the NJC trade union side pay claim.

“The National Employers have now informed the three trade unions (UNISON, GMB and Unite) that they are unable to offer any increase in pay for 2010/11. This is in response to the unions’ claim, submitted in October, for an increase of 2.5% or 500 a year (whichever is greater) with effect from 1 April 2010; a total cost of 2.8%.

“A press release issued by the employers was previously circulated.”

However the Chief Executive advised that in the absence of an agreement, the 1% pay increase provision remained in the rates estimate.

Cllr Mervyn Storey observed the National Employers being unable to offer any increase in pay for 2010/11 and commented that this was the sad reality in the current economic climate.
