No to boutique hotel application plans

PLANNERS have refused an application for a 20-bedroom boutique hotel in Ballymoney.

During last Monday’s Planning meeting, members heard that the proposed plans at 15 to 19 Coleraine Road had been decline due to one reason. The Planning officer explained that ‘insufficient information had been submitted to allow the Department to determine the application’.

He continued: “Discussion took place on September 24 and it was decided that more information was needed regarding the site layout and Roads Service requirements.

“However a further two reminders were issued and the information has not been provided.”

The Planner also explained that three letters of objection had been received by residents regarding concern over increase traffic, the lack of car parking to the rear resulting in on road parking and the impact of site lines and the future road widening.

He disclosed that a noise and odour assessment would be required.

The proposed application, by Cedar Lodge Ltd, includes a 20-bedroom boutique hotel, licensed restaurant and bar with external plant room and car parking area.

In response, Cllr James Simpson said: “I feel they have had enough opportunity to provide the information require by the planners. They have had three reminders but to no avail. It is not up to the planners to start chasing applicants.

“We should just accept the planners recommendation as they’re not playing ball.”

However Cllr John Finlay asked if the planner had ‘visited his office this morning?’ adding: “It’s just that I thought the applicant had posted the relevant information out to you on Thursday.

“Therefore you should have got it this morning. On this basis I think we should have an office meeting.”

Concluding the Planner said: “Maybe its in the post and not come to the relevant department yet.”

It was agreed to hold an office meeting over the application.
