Nonagenarians in Mid and East Antrim Borough sought

Councillor Billy Ashe, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough is asking for anyone born in 1926 to come forward so as to help with local and national celebrations of The Queen turning 90 on 21 April 2016.

Cllr Ashe said: “Any of our 90-year-old individuals or their immediate families are invited to get in touch as soon as possible to help mark this major milestone in our history and heritage.

“I am hoping to recognise them as part of the Council’s plans to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s own celebrations as a local dimension to national activities.

“I would also point out that Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is encouraging groups within the Borough to make application for one of our Small Event Grants as may be appropriate to help mark Her Majesty’s birthday on April 21 and the period leading up to the Official Birthday celebrations in June,” he said.

Family members or 90–year-olds themselves should contact the Mayor’s Office, telephone 028 2563 5059 or email [email protected] to make themselves known as soon as possible.

This is in addition to a special Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration Schools’ Competition. It is being judged by Her Majesties Lord Lieutenant, Joan Christie OBE, and the Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe with assistance from Rosalind Lowry, Arts and Events Development Officer, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

An exhibition of the winning entries will travel to venues across the Borough, and a copy of the winning birthday card will be sent to Her Majesty the Queen’s office. There will also be an awards ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour for winning pupils.
