North Antrim leadership debate

THE NORTH Antrim Ulster Unionist Association hosted the latest party leadership debate when members from Ballymena, across the constituency and beyond attended the event in Carnlea Orange Hall, near Glarryford.

North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Spokesman on Energy, Mr Robin Swann, chaired the event with the two leadership candidates, Assemblyman Basil McCrea from Lagan Valley, and Assemblyman Tom Elliott from Fermanagh and South Tyrone, the centre of attention.

Both candidates made short speeches, followed by question and answer sessions. Mr Swann said the North Antrim debate was the latest in a series of leadership events across Northern Ireland.

He added: “There was a very impressive attendance from the Ballymena, Ballymoney and Moyle areas of North Antrim as well as members from other constituencies, such as Lagan Valley and South Down.

“There was considerable interest in the debate, which augers well for the future of the Ulster Unionist Party in North Antrim,” added Mr Swann.
