North East partnership project to promote peace

A GROUP of principals and teachers has met in St Joseph's College, Coleraine, to initiate a new Leadership project.

The project will see 12 schools from six District Council areas - Ballymoney, Ballymena, Coleraine, Larne, Moyle and Limavady - work in collaboration to deliver projects for young people which will develop capacity and skills in the area of peace building.

It is funded under the European Union’s PEACE III programme managed on behalf of the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East PEACE III Partnership.

The North Eastern Board’s Project Support and Development Officer Nigel Freeburn commented:

“The outcome of the work will hopefully result in young people being better equipped to make informed decisions and choices both in school and in their local community as they seek to challenge racist and sectarian attitudes.”
