North Street call

NORTH Street should be included in the second phase of Lurgan’s revamp, according to Sinn Fein.

Cllr Johnny McGibbon said he has raised the issue with the Department of Social Development that North Street should be included in Phase 2 of Lurgan’s Public Realms Works.

The Scheme, as currently proposed, includes the regeneration of High Street, Edward Street and William Street.

Mr McGibbon said: “North Street is an important arterial transport route as well as one of the busiest trading areas in the town. The major place it holds in the local infrastructure ensures its consideration as part of any long term Public Realm plans.

“Sinn Féin believes it is necessary to include North Street in the next phase of the works if they are to meet initial expectations for improving the local economy.”

He added “We stressed the importance of ensuring that trading is able to continue at its usual volumes. In the current economic conditions it is essential that disruption is kept to a minimum and that the Scheme is managed in a way that minimises the effect on local traders and the public.”
