Northern Bank staff follow in Phileas Fogg's footsteps

NORTHERN Bank branch staff in Kilrea are taking part in a bid to 'walk around the world' in 80 days in aid of a children's cancer charity.

Branch staff will replicate Phileas Fogg’s 80 day trip which took him 23,396 miles around the world and staff have been aiming to clock up the same distance on foot between June 9 and August 27 this year.,

Staff have been challenged to walk 71 miles during this time period as their contribution to the challenge.

To help with their fundraising efforts, the Kilrea branch held a coffee morning for staff and customers last Thursday.

Gillian Creevy, Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC), said: “We are delighted to see that Northern Bank staff have come up with additional events to raise vital funds which will help us to offer practical, emotional and financial support to children and young people who are living with cancer, and their families.”

Eileen Callaghan, Northern Bank Branch Manager, added: “We would like to thank our customers for their very kind donations over the last few weeks and would hope for their support for our latest fundraising event.

“What is more is that our total will be matched pound for pound by Northern Bank - so the charity will doubly benefit from the coffee morning.

“Most importantly, Northern Bank staff continue to support NICFC because of the great work it does for local young people and their families and our branch is always keen to do whatever we can to help raise important funds for this worthwhile charity.”
