Northern Ireland people hang onto things that remind them of a better time!

FOUR in ten local people hang onto things that remind them of a better time but are prompted to have a clear out after a break-up (29%), research by British Heart Foundation (BHF) Northern Ireland Shops revealed today.

Other popular reasons for having a clear out included it being springtime and family coming to stay.

The top ten items that local people admit to hanging on to are: old photo frames and photos, clothes that no longer fit, CD collection from youth, favourite teddy, unused gifts, last season’s clothes, children’s clothes that they’ve grown out of, wedding dress, lava lamp and the little black dress.

With over three quarters (78%) of people from Northern Ireland agreeing that they would be most likely to have a clear out in the spring, BHF Northern Ireland Shops would like to encourage everyone having a clear out to think about donating their unwanted items. Our local Shops are always on the lookout for your lovely things such as clothes, books, CDs and DVDs.

Linda Puchala, BHF Northern Ireland Regional Manager (Designate) said: “Spring is the natural time to start thinking about having a clear out and getting rid of some of those unwanted items.

“We would like to encourage everybody in Northern Ireland to start thinking about having a spring clear out, if you haven’t used something for over a year it’s time to give it up. Donations are the life blood of BHF Shops across the UK and last year raised £31 million in the fight against heart disease.”

BHF Northern Ireland Shops even offer a free collection service for your unwanted things, call 0844 334 1400.
