Northern Regional College: Appointments of members to Governing body

EMPLOYMENT and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry recently appointed two new members to the Governing Body of the Northern Regional College.

The new governors are Isobel Allison and Gillian McConnell. The appointments take effect from 1 August 2012 and are for a period of four years. Both of these appointments were made following competitions regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland in accordance with the Commissioner’s Code of Practice.

Dr Farry also announced the following appointments to the Governing Body of the Northern Regional College:

· Mr James Currie MBE and Mr James Brown were nominated by the North Eastern Education and Library Board. Both appointments took effect from 3 April 2012 and are for a period of four years.

· Mr Matthew Murray was elected by staff of Northern Regional College. His appointment took effect from 11 June 2012 and is for a period of four years.

Referring to the appointments, Dr Farry said: “Colleges have a crucial role to play in our economy through their support for learners, businesses and communities. These appointments will help ensure that Northern Regional College continues to have a qualified and committed Governing Body to provide it with strategic leadership and direction.”

The Governing Body of a Further Education College is responsible for securing the efficient and effective management of the college, determining its strategic direction, appointing its senior staff and ensuring that the College acts as a responsible employer.
