'˜Not a single fight in Lurgan town centre' on Saturday says PSNI

Basshunter were also playing in the Ashburn and the police had expected a large turnout and trouble in the town.

However an amazed PSNi were happy to report that there wasn’t a single fight reported to them.

On the PSNI Craigavon Facebook a jolly officer said: “As we all know, Saturday night was a glorious night for our wee country, but not so great a night for poor Santa. (Leo Santa Cruz)

“It was also a busy night for us! Basshunter was in Lurgan, with 800 people in the Ashburn.

“The sceptics among us believed that fight night plus big crowds was sure to equal trouble.

“We were wrong. Certainly that we saw, or that was reported to us, not a single fight in Lurgan town centre. Result.

“We did however tend to two young folk who had drank themselves pretty much unconscious in various parts of town.

“On each occasion an ambulance had to be called due to just how incapable of looking after themselves they were.

“Completely avoidable waste of resources. Hopefully those folks families never need an ambulance for unavoidable things when they are looking after drunk people.

“A big thank you to locals, both people out for the night and local bar staff who offered to help out with water, jackets...and advice on where to go for a good night out in Lurgan!

“After town centre cleared up a bit we went for a drive about, and were thinking about coffee until we saw a car driving with no lights on. Bit strange at 230am! Stopped the driver who stank of booze. Twice over the limit it turned out. Now, it’s not advisable to drive around with class A in your pocket. It’s even less advisable to do so whilst drink driving.

“He’s since been charged with drink driving and possession of class A.

“The fact we had to take him to Musgrave Street custody in Belfast was a bitter sweet one.

“As we left and turned on the radio Carl was starting the 8th round. Doubt I’ll ever forget that drive back to Lurgan!

“That wasn’t the end of our night. Not by a long shot...but the rest of the story can wait until the morning!”
