Not one, but two, ‘best kept’ awards for borough

FOR the second week in a row, Larne has proved it has plenty to be proud of by notching up another success in a prestigious Province-wide “best kept competition”.

Following success for Larne in the Translink Ulster in Bloom competition, there’s more good news with two local facilities being praised in the 2011 SuperValu Best Kept Health and Social Care Facility Awards.

Lisgarel Residential Unit was named joint runner-up in the residential category of the awards for the Northern Health and Social Care Trust region, while Moyle Medical Centre was runner-up in the healthcare section.

Health Minister Edwin Poots praised the winning facilities for their dedication to the well-being of service users and staff.

The prestigious awards are organised annually by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) and sponsored by independent retail group SuperValu, recognising facilities that are maintained and environmentally enhanced to the highest standard.

Almost 100 health and social care premises across Northern Ireland entered the awards scheme this year and NIAC judges have been visiting the facilities since June to find the best kept medical practices, daycare centres, clinics and residential homes.

Doreen Muskett, MBE, president of NIAC, praised the winners: “The aim of the SuperValu Best Kept Awards is to encourage Northern Ireland’s health and social care facilities in their efforts to make the most of their premises for everyone who uses them.

“We would like to add our congratulations to the Minister’s and commend Lisgarel Residential Unit, Moyle Medical Centre and all of the winning facilities on their success.”

All winners receive a personalized sign, a perpetual trophy and a monetary award towards future projects. Runners up receive a special framed certificate and a monetary prize.
