Novelty housing in town

SOMETHING new in local housing design was being built at the Mourne Road in Lurgan in 1967.

The maisonette was not new to Northern Ireland but it was a novelty for Lurgan.

At the Mourne Road scheme two storey houses were to be built on top of one another to make a compact four storey building.

There were to be 21 maisonettes in all, some with four bedrooms and others with three.

There were also to be two shops with a flat above each.

The maisonettes were to look similar to 36 flats which were being built in Queen Street.
