The petition which already has close to 500 signatures is calling for the introduction of speed humps and road markings to slow traffic down on the road.

Launched by the owner of the Trinity Park nursery, Karen Dawson, she said she wanted action taken as she did not want to be speaking to the media on the death of a child.

Mrs Dawson, on the petition site, said: “Within the last two weeks, two accidents have occurred on this road and have been recorded with the police. One happened on December 22, right outside the gates of the nursery and the other occurred on Wednesday. January 6.

“This accident involved one of my members off staff, who had been leaving work to travel back home.

“We would really like to see road markings along with speed humps on this road to our nursery as we feel this is becoming a very dangerous road to travel on.

“We have children coming in and out of our setting with their parents five days a week, from 7am up until 6.30pm and this is a concern lately for not only ourselves and our parents, but also the residents who live on this road.

“We have a total of 90 children on our books and up to 52 can be on the premises at any one time.

“I don’t want to be speaking to the media and telling them about the loss of a child or one of my staff or parents because no one has listened to me.

“We are in danger and we need help now! Something needs to be organised as soon as possible, before we have a more fatal accident occurring!”

She said: “My two daughters, Andrea and Lauren, work at the nursery too and I worry for them as much as anyone using the road here.
