Their fears were expressed at a meeting last week with North Antrim DUP representative, David McIlveen.

He said that residents on Nursery Road near Gracehill were deeply concerned over speeding issues.

Mr. McIlveen commented: “Nursery Road, taking in the small estate at Nursery View, has now become an established residential settlement, yet the road itself remains a convenient short cut between Gracehill and the Whitesides Road with no speed controls on it.

“With family homes and farms along the road there is often crossing farm traffic and pedestrians who run a considerable risk of serious injury or worse as a result of speeding traffic. I have asked Transport NI to carry out a traffic survey as soon as possible so that we can see the full extent of the problem.

“If, as I suspect, there is a problem, then I want to see speed limits put in place as a matter of urgency with all of the necessary enforcement that comes with that.

“I have said on previous occasions that we would hope that when driving into a built up area drivers would take note and slow down, however when this does not happen unfortunately enforcement is the only option. This is about saving lives and therefore every effort should be made to ensure that all of us who are drivers go about our business responsibly.”
