NW Festival of Sikh Arts and Culture

The Northern Ireland Sikh Association, based in Londonderry, received funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s ‘Intercultural Arts Programme’ which supports minority ethnic communities in accessing and participating in arts activities. The Association will use the money to encourage intercultural engagement and develop awareness of the Sikh culture with two community youth arts projects and a three-day festival at the end of May.

To achieve this they will be working with the Nerve Centre, visual arts organisations locally and specialist Raggi musicians from Birmingham.

Paramjit Kaur Sandhu from the NI Sikh Association said; “This funding will help support our ambition to raise awareness of the Sikh culture among the wider community in the North West. We hope that, through facilitating visual arts projects with local young people and hosting The Festival of Sikh Arts and Culture at the Sikh Gurudwara in the city, we will be able to create an appreciation our cultural differences while also promoting a sense of shared community.”
