NW student top in NI in two subjects

Helen is now studying Medicine at Trinity College, Dublin.

Five Lumen Christi College pupils picked up a staggering eight GCE Top Candidate awards between them at the CCEA Celebrating Excellence awards ceremony at Stormont Hotel.

Joining Helen were Aaron McIvor, Tim McDaid, Seamus Flynn and Daniel O’Reilly.

Clare Nicholl, a former pupil of Limavady Grammar School, was CCEA Art and Design Top Candidate and is now studying Art and Design and the University of Ulster.

Jamie Hegarty, James Lynch, Odhran Cummings and Thomas Nicell of St Columb’s College all picked up a GCE Top Candidate award for Art and Design.

Yasmine Robinson, a former Limavady High School student, was top in Art and Design whilst Hilary Smyth, another former Limavady High student, came top in Health and Social Care DA.

Anne Marie Duffy, Director of Qualifications at CCEA, said: “CCEA takes pride in organising this special ‘Celebrating Excellence’ event, which is now in its fifteenth year.

“It allows us to recognise the achievements of some very talented young people, as well as the support and encouragement of the families, friends and teachers who have been integral to their success.

“A levels continue to be a valued qualification for universities and employers and CCEA was very pleased to see 32,836 entries for GCE A level examinations in Northern Ireland this year. We wish all the students here today all the very best in their future endeavours.”
