NWCDYL boosted by Sports Council award

THE North West, Coleraine and District Youth League have been awarded a £10,000 grant.

The financial injection, from the Sports Council will help the League provide equipment.

At a meeting last week, Manchester United and Northern Ireland legend Harry Gregg attended, and was given an update on the league's new initiatives which will help them secure a local platform for youth football.

Speaking to the members, Harry,who is the League's Honorary President, informed that he fully supported their objectives and added: "It is important that we create a platform where young players can express themselves on the football pitch."

It is the league's ambition to have a structure that facilitates local clubs, teams can play on local pitches and be watched by families and senior club representatives.

At the meeting Harry was informed of the advanced plans to expand its already popular Under 10 Mini League format to possibly four different venues throughout the north west and Coleraine district.

Another exciting initiative announced was the expansion of the NWCDYL`s Invitational Cup.

This years format will run over May and June. Teams from Inishowen and Donegal have already registered their interest.

This year's Invitational Cups will be played at Under 10 (7 aside, Magee) and Under 11 (7 aside, Vale Centre) on May 22 and 29.

Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 competitions will be 11-a-side knockout competitions, and will be played at various venues throughout the area. Restrictions for entries may apply depending on applications.
