Oak trees planted to mark end of C400

These trees were presented to the Mayor by the Deputy Governor of The Honourable The Irish Society, Mr Simon Duckworth, on his previous visit to Coleraine in October 2013.

Mayor, councillor David Harding, commented, “The Coleraine 400 project has been a great success and this is a wonderful way to end it.

“Each tree represents 100 years since Coleraine received its Town Charter and they form part of the legacy of the project. They are a reminder to future Coleraine residents of how we commemorated this anniversary.”

The Honourable The Irish Society gifted 20 oak saplings, propagated from ancient boundary oaks on Hampstead Heath that are in the care of the City of London Corporation, to schools, colleges, council offices and other locations across Londonderry, Coleraine, Limavady and Magherafelt to mark 400 years of shared history.

As part of 400th anniversary of the establishment of The Honourable The Irish Society those trees are now joined by the four saplings in Anderson Park, positioned behind St Patrick’s Church.
