Donaghcloney man passes away

Donaghcloney man William James Leckey sadly passed away at the end of last month.

Mr Leckey, who was known to friends and family as Jim, was 81 years of age when he passed away at Craigavon Area Hospital on April 24.

He was the dearly loved husband of Maisie and was the devoted dad of Michele and Michaela.

Born and brought up in Gilford, Mr Leckey lived there most of his life until moving to Donacloney 15 years ago.

He served his time as an electrician in Walter Gracey’s Portadown and after this entered the employment of Gilford Mill and then went out on his own.

He was interested in caravanning and took a great interest in indoor bowls. He was a member of St Matthew’s Parish Church Scarva.

He is survived by his wife Maisie, two daughters Mrs Michele Dempster and Mrs Michaela Mount, sons-in-law Stephen and Mervyn, grandchildren Stephanie, Kyle, Nicole and Lauren, great grandchildren Brooke, Cameron and James, brother Roy, also Callum and Charmaine.

To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place from his home on Sunday for a service which was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rory Corbett for a service in St Matthew’s Parish Church Scarva at which the Rev. John Ewart paid a fitting tribute to Mr Leckey’s life.

The hymns ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’ and ‘Safe In The Arms Of Jesus’ were sung. Miss Ann Campbell presided at the organ.

The interment took place afterwards in the adjoining Churchyard.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for St. Matthew’s Parish Church Scarva.

William Bell and Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements.
