Former churchorganist dies

Billy was the dearly loved son of the late Jack and Cis Chambers and cousin of Betty McMaster.

A former pupil of Craigavon Primary School, Gilford and later Banbridge Academy, Billy developed a keen interest in music and soon became an accomplished pianist - putting his talents to use as a church organist in Loughbrickland Presbyterian Church and as a member of Banbridge Accordion Orchestra, Banbridge Ladies Community Choir and Banbridge Musical Society.

A tribute was paid at the funeral by Mr Roy Leckey. Billy had not only been his lifelong friend but was also godfather to his daughter Yvonne.

Mr Leckey paid tribute to Billy as a friend and spoke of his loyalty, generosity of spirit and commitment to everything in which he was involved.

The funeral service took place in Tullylish Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 6, and was carried out in accordance with Billy’s wishes.

Billy’s love of music carried through the service. With Mr Stephen Corry presiding at the organ, Billy’s favourite hymns ‘The 23rd Psalm’ and ‘Abide With Me’ were played.

‘Finlanda Sibelius’ was also played during the service and Billy’s favourite piece ‘Vidor’ was played as his remains were taken from the Church.

Rev Stephen Hibbert officiated at the service and the address was given by the Rev Dr Roger Purse who also paid tribute to Billy’s musical talent, sense of loyalty and commitment.

Other Presbyterian ministers were also in attendance at the funeral to pay their respects to Billy.

The interment took place in the adjoining Churchyard.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Tullylish and Loughbrickland Presbyterian Churches (cheques made payable to William Bell and Co)

William Bell and Co had charge of the funeral arrangements and discharged their duties in a professional and respectful manner.
