Madge loved for her warmth and generosity

Madge, as she was affectionately known, was born on December 23, 1932, to Kathleen and Arthur Magennis ,and dear wife of the late Augusto Scappaticci,

She worked at a young age at Ballydown Factory and later at the Bridge Café before marrying in 1955 and raising a family.

Madge endeared herself to all who had the pleasure of knowing and meeting her.

Loved for her warmth, kindness, generosity and playful sense of humour, Madge had a special gift to empathise and connect with people of all ages and walks of life.

Her adventurous spirit allowed her to travel far and near to places such as Las Vegas, California, Italy, Spain and Portugal, to name a few.

Madge attended Mass daily with her devoted friend Frances, whom she cherished.

She enjoyed weekly get-togethers with her close friends at the Bridge Bar and an 80th birthday celebration had been planned for December 23.

Madge is survived by her adoring children Maria, Iolanda, Arthur, Adrienne, Fred, Tony, Kate and Mario, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Madge is also survived by her sisters Kathleen and Rosaleen and brothers Pat and Billy.

Her funeral took place from her home at Ballygowan Road for Requiem Mass at St Therese Church, which was filled to capacity.

Mass was conducted by Canon Liam Stevenson and burial took place at St Patrick’s Cemetery.

Family floral tributes were placed on the grave where Madge is now united with her husband Auggie and baby Auggie, who died tragically on Christmas Day 1964.
