Norman was a keen farmer

PROFOUND sorrow spread over a wide area when it was learned of the passing of Mr. Norman Mayne of 7 Brague Road, Banbridge on Wednesday, October 10.

He had been up and about that morning attending to his livestock when the sudden seizure occurred.

He was the dearly loved husband of Maureen. Norman, who farmed extensively, was associated on the farm with his son Glenn.

A man of many sterling qualities, he was born on August 15, 1947.

He went to school in Ballynanny and Banbridge High School and had taken over his father’s farm. He was the son of the late Andrew and Lily Mayne and had built up the dairy herd of cattle.

He married Miss Maureen Barlow on December 16, 1968, and they were blessed with five children but on February 16, 2011, they sustained a great blow on the tragic death of their son David who was killed in a farming accident in Katesbridge. He was just 32 years old. This left a big void in the family’s life.

Earlier he had lost his brother Dereck and his sister Amy who were very close to the family. In his younger days he was a member of the Ulster Special Constabulary and was a member of Loughbrickland Presbyterian Church but his main interest was centred around his home and family and it is there that his passing will be mostly felt.
