Sadness at passing of May

IT is with regret that we record the death of Mrs Mary McCallister, who passed away peacefully at hospital on Friday, October 8, in her 100th year.

Mary, or May as she was better known, was born the youngest of eight children of John and Margaret Trimble of Curley Hill on January 19, 1913.

She married her late husband William in 1936, who predeceased her 22 years ago, and set up home at Fortview in Glascar where she raised her family, Jean, Sterling, John and Trevor. Her passing is also regretted deeply by her son-in-law Bobby, daughters-in-law Joan and Irene, as well as 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A sad occasion for May was the loss of her grandson David 20 years ago.

May was a hard working diligent lady with great Christian morals and highly respected in the community where she always enjoyed an evening’s chat with friends and neighbours. Her main interests were centred within her home, family and Glascar Church where she worshipped for around 90 years being a Sunday school teacher, an active member of PWA Choir and Bowling club for many years.

Her Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving was held on Sunday October 7 in Glascar Presbyterian Church with interment in the adjoining graveyard.

The services at the home and the church, which was filled to capacity with mourners, was conducted by the Rev. Raymond McKibben B.D. Dip. Min., organist Mrs Cheryl Chambers, both to whom sincere thanks are extended, as is to the members of Glascar PW who organised refreshments.
