Raymond was well-known for his charitable work, having provided entertainment outside shops on Main Street for many years and collected money for a range of good causes, most notably for Cancer Research UK.

He passed away peacefully at Antrim Area Hospital on Tuesday, September 1.

Sharon Steenson, manageress of the Cancer Research UK shop on Main Street said: “Raymond has been raising money on the street outside the shop for as long as I have been here.

“We became good friends over the years. He was very popular, always jolly and willing to do anything for you.

“Raymond really was a remarkable person who had the ability to brighten up people’s lives.

“We have lost a true legend and the town will never be the same again. He will be sorely missed.”

One of his close friends, Carlee Letson told the TImes: “Raymond was a real wee gentleman.

“He was always great craic and had a knack for lifting people’s spirits.

“Raymond raised a lot of money for many worthy causes over the years and there will be a real hole in the town centre without him and his music.”

A service of thanksgiving for Raymond’s life was held last Thursday in Mulhollands of Larne funeral home, followed by burial in Larne Cemetery.
