O’Dowd set to meet with police over fire bomb attacks

Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd is to meet senior police officers to discuss recent firebomb attacks in Banbridge.

Mr O’ Dowd said: “The latest firebomb attack and assault is a very worrying incident that has caused great concern in the community.

“It follows on from a number of attacks on vehicles in Banbridge several weeks ago and I am meeting senor officers to discuss the police response to these attacks and what action they are taking to prevent further attacks.

“While it is up to the police to establish if the attacks are connected, the latest attack certainly adds to the sense of concern in the community that there is a group or a group of individuals who are inflicting terror on people in the town.”

Mr O’Dowd added: “If these attacks continue someone will lose their life and I call on anyone with any information to contact the PSNI immediately.”

Meanwhile, Mr O’Dowd has also called for vigilance in tackling and preventing burglaries over the Christmas period.

His comments come after a number of incidents at local residential areas and local businesses in recent weeks across Upper Bann.

The MLA has urged everyone to look out for others, especially their elderly friends and neighbours.

Mr O’Dowd said: “There have been a number of incidents in residential areas and at local businesses over recent times, and it is understandable that people would be concerned about the prospect of burglary.

“I would ask people to be vigilant and to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in the run up to Christmas.

“We should all keep an eye out for our friends and neighbours, particularly for those elderly residents.”

Mr O’Dowd added: “I would ask anyone who does witness any suspicious activity to contact the PSNI.”
