O'Dowd welcomes New Sight Line at the Clare

UPPER Bann MLA John O'Dowd has welcomed the commencement of work at a crossroads regularly used by Banbridge people travelling to and from work.

Speaking about the junction of the Lowtown Rd, Crowhill Rd and Clare Rd, the Sinn Fein MLA said, “I welcome the commencement of work to improve the sight-lines at the Clare Crossroads and look forward to the completion of that work and the resulting safer junction for all those road users who have to make use of it.

“Sinn Fin lobbied for changes to the road layout at this crossroads for years and as the volume of commuter traffic using the junction increased dramatically in recent times we increased the pressure for improved safety measures to be implemented.

“This junction was always a hazard and has been the site of many accidents over the years, some of them fatal. As well as the local people, who have no other options, there are now hundreds of commuters from Banbridge, Waringstown, and Craigavon using this route daily and with this increase in use the risk of a major traffic accident has risen significantly.

Work on a scheme that we had secured to improve the sight-lines has now begun and should be completed shortly making the Clare Crossroads a safer place for everyone,” he said.
