Oil thieves target primary school kids

The incident at Kilmoyle Primary School near Ballybogey was one of a number of thefts of heating oil in the district.

750 litres of oil were taken from Kilmoyle School some time between February 11 - 21 when the school was on a half-term break.

Inspector David Anderson of Ballymoney PSNI said: “This has an impact on the school budget and affects local primary school children which is despicable.”

He is appealing for information from the public who may have noticed a van or a vehicle with a trailer acting suspiciously near the school.

Meanwhile, houses have also been targeted by oil thieves.

Some time between Monday and Friday last week 500 litres were stolen from a house at Derrykeighan and between 11pm on Saturday and the next morning a theft of oil was reported at a house at Belmont Park, Rasharkin.

Inspector Anderson said: “We would remind people to be on the alert for any suspicious activity not just around their own oil tank but neighbours too.

“We want to hear immediately from anyone who sees anyone acting suspiciously with containers near oil tanks to phone us straight away. If we can get a description of any vehicle involved or a registration number it is a bonus,” said the inspector.
