Old fashioned Christmas at Tannaghmore

This December, why not experience an old fashioned Christmas celebration in the enchanting setting of the Barn Museum at Tannaghmore Gardens?

Come and join Craigavon Museum Services staff for some wonderful World War 1 themed workshops taking place every weekend in the run-up to Christmas which will provide an insight into rural life and Christmas celebrations at the time.

On Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December children can enjoy two afternoon workshops that will allow them to craft their own beautifully traditional decorations to add extra magic to their tree and Santa sacks to take home with them.

Then Saturday 13th and Saturday 20th December will see Christmas Straw Decoration workshops where children can make traditional Irish straw decorations such as little figures using different wrapping and tying techniques, all under the expert guidance of Straw Craft Ireland.

Finally, the Barn Museum will host Christmas Gift Box Workshops on Sunday 14th December and Sunday 21st December, inspired by the Princess Mary Christmas box tins delivered to serving soldiers at the front in 1914. This workshop will allow children to make their own Christmas boxes complete with handmade gifts and decorations typical of the time... perfect to give to that someone special.

All workshops take place from 2pm to 4pm each day and are aimed at children aged eight to 12 years old. The workshops are free but numbers are limited so booking is essential by calling 028 3831 1669 or e-mail at [email protected]

The workshops form part of the Museum’s ‘Living with World War 1’ programme, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (NI).
