Old Firm feature in 158 PSNI crime reports

THE words Rangers, Celtic or Old Firm have appeared in 158 PSNI incident summaries for crimes ranging from vehicle hijackings and suspicious packages between 2009 and present.

The information was released by the PSNI under a Freedom of Information request.

A PSNI statement warned that whilst the Scottish football clubs may have featured in the incident summaries their mention may have had nothing to do with the incidents under investigation.

“The mention of the words Rangers, Celtic and/or Old Firm, taken from this incident summary, could be unrelated to the crime.

“Also these figures will not include incidents which have had these words mentioned in other reports and not been included on the incident summary.

“There were 158 incidents from 2009 to present where the words ‘Rangers/Celtic/Old Firm’ are mentioned in the incident summary,” the statement read.

Over the 2.5 year period the ‘Auld Firm’ were mentioned in the incident summaries for 1 arrest report, 47 assault reports, 6 burglary reports, 1 concern for safety reports, 34 criminal damage reports, 1 domestic abuse report, 1
