Old Hillman Mix will get Glenda to the church on time

One aspect that brides and grooms-to-be are taking more of an interest in is their individual transportation to the Church.

While some may go for a stretch limousine, or a horse and carriage, others seek a mode of transportation that might reflect more of the couple’s personality and interests.

One bride from Bushmills will certainly be doing it differently - arriving at the church in military style.

A 1947 Hillman Minx will be pulling up to the gates of Saint John’s on Saturday 6th August. Instead of transporting military soldiers, War Historian Glenda Rodgers will be the blushing bride stepping out of the RAF vehicle.

The journey to the ceremony is often described as being one of the most nerve-wrecking of your life, so it is important to travel in comfort as well as style.

The 1947 Hillman Minx that will be escorting Miss Rodgers was first manufactured in 1943.

The RAF used the vehicle for four years, when it was first registered in 1947. In recent years, the car has been used mainly for military exhibitions in Bushmills.

The bridegroom Danny McCormick from Mosside drives the Hillman Minx through Bushmills every morning to the exhibition. He said; “ I get a lot of strange looks from many admirers of the vehicle.”

Mr. McCormick told the Times that he drives a Lexus to do the grocery shopping and when questioned which car he would prefer his answer was in favour of the Lexus.

“I prefer the Lexus, however Glenda would prefer to drive the Hillman as opposed to her Astra, because of the way it looks and feels to drive, it’s a completely different experience.”

This is certainly a wedding with a difference. Glenda, a well known War Historian, wants to incorporate her interest in war research into her big day.

She has been interested in World War 2 for many years and has published many books on the topic.

The recent publication is a compilation of stories about the men on the War Memorial in Bushmills who died in World War Two. She has been to many WW2 Battlefield sites and recently travelled to Burmah were she visited cementries and war related events.

The happy couple both agreed that whatever style you would like for you wedding, getting a vehicle that fits your personality is worth every penny and of course every memory.
