Old railway station to become official off-street car park

The car park at Foyle Valley Railway Station, will become an official off-street car park from April 2016.

A twelve week consultation period is currently underway which aims to gather feedback from members of the public on the car park and the proposals being made by Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Director of Business and Culture at DCSDC, Stephen Gillespie, explained the decision, saying: “As of 1st April 2015 local Councils in N. Ireland inherited the power of off-street car parking and as such now have a statutory obligation to ensure any Council owned property being used as an off-street car park is fit for purpose and in accordance with the off street parking order for N. Ireland.

“Before this car park becomes an official off-street car park we’re going above and beyond our obligation of a 21 day notice period by giving members of the public 12 weeks to feed through their input. This will ensure we can take all of the comments on board before we implement pricing structures and the types of services that need to be available at this location to ensure we are best serving our ratepayers and wider stakeholders.”

Details of the car park can be obtained by visiting the Strand Road or Derry Road Council offices. Alternatively you can send any feedback to [email protected]
