Old rivalries renewed at Run Together

FOOTBALLERS from Ballymena United and Coleraine are set to go head-to-head in Ballymoney in a fortnight's time.

A number of players from both clubs including Howard Beverland, Kyle McVey, Stephen Carson, Archie Stewart and Graeme Nelson will take to the track to raise funds for Cancer Research.

Players from other clubs - including Glentoran and Glebe Rangers - have also signalled their intention to take part in the fun-filled event.

Scores of north Antrim folk have already pledged their support for this year’s Run Together Ballymoney.

The fourth annual run will take place on Friday 28 May at 7pm at the Riverside Park, Ballymoney.

Last year’s event raised 3060 for Cancer Research.

The Fun Run as it was known previously has been renamed Run Together Ballymoney 2010 - a nod to Cancer Research's motto 'Together we will beat cancer'.

A number of people have already pledged their support for the event including members of the public and various sporting clubs throughout the area.

A Facebook site has also been set up.

The 5K run for the more serious competitors is scheduled to begin at 7.00 pm followed by the Fun Run and walk. This is designed so as everyone is given an equal opportunity to take part and we are anticipating the usual large turnout from members of the public.

Scientists have this week said a one-off screening test that takes just five minutes could reduce the risk of bowel cancer by one-third and save thousands of lives.

A free Cancer Research T shirt will also be given to the first 50 people handing in 20 or more sponsorship money on the evening.

Sponsor forms can be obtained from Mervyn Ferris 07703 582 734 or from Chris in the Ballymoney Times Office.

Further details will follow in the weeks leading up to the event.
