Older people enjoy Dunmurry May Ball

LOCAL community organisation Good Morning Colin recently held a May Ball complete with maypole dancing for their elderly clients.

The cross community event was attended by over 100 older people from various organisations from the Dunmurry area including GMC, Brooklands Care Home, and the Dairy Farm Day Centre. Attendees enjoyed a 4 course lunch in Dunmurry Church Hall before enjoying an afternoon of music and merry maypole dancing. The event also featured a presentation by Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service in response to the recent spate of fires in the homes of elderly people.

Isobel Flood, Coordinator of Good Morning Colin, said: “The older people really enjoyed themselves today; the music, food and entertainment went down really well. The older people really enjoyed getting the chance to mingle with others and quite a number of them enjoyed a few turns around the maypole. On a more serious note we also took the opportunity to tell older people about the importance of fire safety in the home, especially of having a working smoke alarm. We would like to make local older people aware that you can get a free fire safety test in your house carried out by the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. You can contact me at Good Morning Colin on 9062 7863 to arrange this. All in all it was a fun and informative event and I would like to thank SEHSCT and Colin Neighbourhood Partnership for supporting this event.”
