Older people to attend Parliament

OLDER people living in Banbridge and Dromore have been encouraged to use their bus pass to travel to the first local meeting of the Northern Ireland Pensioners’ Parliament.

Ulster Unionist MLA, Basil McCrea, said the meeting would be held at a central location in Belfast between 10am and 3.30pm, with lunch provided.

“To ensure the views of older people from every county are represented, the Northern Ireland Pensioners’ Parliament, organised by Age Sector Platform, will hold meetings at various venues during March and April,” said Mr McCrea. “The Parliament recognises the importance of empowering older people by giving them this opportunity to make their voices heard on issues that matter to them.”

Those unable to attend can still contribute to the agenda for discussion by filling in the Pensioners Priorities questionnaire which aims to identify the main concerns for older people.

The deadline for questionnaire responses is Friday, 21 February, and copies are available from Age Sector Platform or from Mr McCrea’s Dromore Office, telephone number 02892693594.
