Olderfleet pupils in top gear for F1 glory

pupils at Olderfleet Primary School are racing towards a prestigious national competition.

Talented P7 children have earned themselves a place in the national finals of the Formula 1 in Schools competition after excellent results in the Northern Ireland stage last week.

In fact, Olderfleet’s Year 7 group entered four teams and won not only first place, second place but also fastest car!

The judges praised the design of the cars as well as the excellent communication skills of the pupils and their highly professional presentation talents.

The winning team has now been invited to the national final to be held in Birmingham at the end of June.

Olderfleet principal Robert McCombe said congratulations were well deserved by the whole class.

“It really was a team effort,” he said. “Thank you to Larne High School who helped with the making of our cars,” Mr McCombe added.

“Thanks also to all our sponsors for their support.

“We really need the support of sponsors again in order for the team to make it to the National final in Birmingham. This is a great honour for Larne,” he urged.
