Oldham says police areprobingthreats

Oldham Athletic says it is aware of threats made against individuals connected with the club.

In a statement released on Monday (May 11) the club said: “These matters have been passed to the police and the club will be making no further comments on this subject.”

The development follows the appointment last week of former Derry City FC centre half Darren Kelly as the new Oldham manager.

Mr Kelly found himself in the headlines shortly after his appointment when his reference to the Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness as a “legend” in a social media post disgruntled some Oldham fans.

Mr Kelly subsequently quit Twitter as a result of the furore.

The football club have not confirmed whether the threats concern Mr Kelly.
