Transport Northern Ireland have been approached on the topic by UUP Assemblyman Robin Swann, who said he was “very concerned” at the high speeds of some vehicles on what he described as a very busy stretch of road in the town.

Mr Swann said: “Home owners living on the Old Park Road have told me they are living in fear of getting ‘rear ended’ while waiting to turn into their own homes, such is the high speed of some vehicles.

“A number of residents have contacted me with their concerns as the speed on this section of road is unbelievable, especially around 8am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm. TransportNI has completed a survey of the speed on this section of the road at my request, and I currently await the results. The situation is now reaching crisis point because of the speeds and I certainly do not want a situation where we have a very serious accident before swift measures are implemented to combat the speeding.”
