‘A Belfast Story’, which depicts the problems in the Northern Ireland peace process, pipped a big budget movies starring the likes of Halle Berry, Ryan Reynolds and Naomi Watts.

It opened at number three in the Northern Ireland box office, just behind Insidious 2 and White House Down, which is an enormous achievement for a film with a minute production budget.

The post-Troubles thriller tells the story of a series of disturbing murders of ex-Republican paramilitaries which threatens to re-ignite the Troubles. It stars Colm Meaney as the veteran detective charged with finding the killers. Olivia Nash plays Meaney’s wife.

A Belfast Story was written and directed by Nathan Todd and produced by his father, John, who was thrilled by the support from the Northern Irish film-going public.

John said: “To see it performing so well delights the whole production team and we want to thank every person who had anything to do with the film, however small.”
