Speaking after his selection, Cllr O’Loan said: “I am deeply honored to have been selected by the SDLP as the candidate in this year’s Westminster election. I plan to repay the faith they have shown in me with a fighting campaign to bring fair representation opposing the cuts that have damaged business, families and communities here.

“It has been my great privilege to work with the people of North Antrim as a public servant for many years. Working with struggling families, new businesses and communities emerging from conflict has given me the strongest basis for representing people in this constituency.

“Voters now have a simple choice. The next parliament will choose to embrace prosperity or austerity. Five more years of Tory government, propped up by the DUP, inflicting more cuts and more pain on people here. Or a new, strong government which puts people first. The SDLP will hold the balance of power along with the other parties of social democracy. Together we will hold scores of seats and will ensure that a Labour government remains true to its principles and delivers for Northern Ireland.

“If people here want to choose prosperity, the SDLP is the only party which can help deliver a knockout blow to Cameron and the Conservatives. We will fight hard for every vote and deliver a better politics for people here.”
