olvier’s surgery date arrives

Coleraine school boy Oliver Dickey will undergo life changing surgery today (Tuesday) in an American hospital thanks to the generousity of the people of the North Coast.

Oliver, who is just five, was diagnosed with the spastic diplegia form of cerebral palsy at just 18 months.

Today (Tuesday) he will become the first child from Northern Ireland to undergo pioneering surgery after over £90,000 was raised for the Millburn Primary pupil.

As the family took off for America last week, Oliver’s mother Charlene posted on the ‘Help Wee Oliver Walk’ facebook page saying that she would keep everyone updated on the little man’s progress.

Yesterday (Monday), Charlene posted on the ‘Help Wee Oliver Walk’ facebook page saying: “Back at the hotel now to get some supper and get ready for bed for our early start at the hospital tomorrow.

“We will be out of the appointment around 7pm uk time Monday. We will let you all know around then what time Oliver’s surgery will be at in Tuesday.”

It is hoped that the surgery will reduce the stiffness in Oliver’s legs and give him more movement.

After the operation Oliver will be in hospital for five days and after that he will get out-patient therapy for three weeks.

We’ll keep you updated on Oliver’s progress via our website this week.
