Olympic duo

CARRICK’S input to the Olympic Torch Relay continues today (Thursday) with two local runners enjoying the opportunity to carry the flame.

Thomas Haighton was chosen to run in Newcastle because he dedicates most of his time to working and volunteering to care for adults with learning disabilities. Whitehead’s Jenna Holmes was selected to bear the Olympic Torch in Antrim as an inspiring under-18 international hockey player who coaches the junior school in hockey. She has attended Youth Olympics in Singapore and the Europeans in Holland for hockey.

Downshire pupil Emma Jefferson had the honour of taking part in her home town on Sunday while Carrick College student Mark Boyd carried the torch in neighbouring Larne.
