Olympic rowers make a splash for World Water Day

“We’ve spent so many hours training on the water and it’s where we love being,” said Peter.

His brother, Richard added: ‘So, we’ve joined with Tearfund to support their campaign to bring fresh water to 3 million people.”

The boys are promoting the Belfast Community Gospel Choir concert at Portstewart Baptist Church on Saturday, March 23, which will mark World Water Day this March.

The concert will begin at 7.30pm.

At the concert, choir director Marie Lacey will share stories from her visit to Uganda.

Peter Lynas, Evangelical Alliance NI Director, who has also travelled recently to Uganda, will talk about the people he met there.

The Coleraine rowers have also made a short film that will be shown at the event.

Around the world, 780 million people aren’t able to get hold of of safe drinking water. Tearfund has a vision to reverse that for millions of people by working with local partners in places such as Uganda.

“Having visited Uganda and seen first hand how essential clean water is to help people live healthier lives, I really hope local people will come and enjoy our concert,” said choir member Dr Susan Brown from Coleraine.

“It would be amazing if it could be sell-out, then we could help over 1600 people enjoy fresh clean water everyday.”

Tickets cost £15 and include light refreshments during the interval.
