Olympic task lies ahead for local father Kris

Kris James, whose two young children are on the autistic spectrum, was the driving force behind a number of fundraising events for Autism NI and Roddensvale Special School in Larne over the past two years.

The local dad is now seeking support for his latest charity endeavours, which include designing an autism awareness rugby top and taking on the Causeway Triathlon next month.

Kris said: “I am doing a Olympic length triathlon on Saturday June 21 for a charity called ADD-NI.

“It’s the only AD/HD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) charity in the country and they do and amazing job for young people right up to the adults that have been diagnosed.

“My son Kaden and daughter Ana-Lucia both have ADHD as well as autism and my wife Kerri-Ann was recently diagnosed with AD/HD in January so it’s something that we as a family are well and truly into.”

ADD-NI aims to provide support and information and to raise awareness of the disorder across the province, while working in partnership with those affected by AD/HD, their families and other agencies.

The triathlon, which will be held in Portrush, will see Kris swim two laps of a 750 metre course in the sea, then cycle two laps to complete a 37km triangular circuit.

The mammoth challenge will conclude with a run from Ramore Head to White Rocks beach, returning along the coast to the East Strand.

Kris, who coaches at Ballyclare Rugby Club, was also recently involved in designing a striking rugby top, which aims to promote the theme of autism awareness.

“I think looks it looks amazing and I’m really proud of it,” he added.

“Ballyclare Rugby Club have really got behind this and most of the orders have come from them.”
