Olympic Torch relay details

The starting point for the Torch in the Borough will be next to Royal Portrush Golf Club at the

“Welcome to the Borough” sign at 5.30pm on Sunday, June 3rd.

It will then continue onto Causeway Street towards the centre of town before making its way to East Strand Car Park where the Olympic Concert begins at 4.00pm and runs until 8.30pm.

The best places to view the Olympic Torch in Portrush will be;

Along Dunluce Road between 6.14pm and 6.19pm -view from south side of road Kerr Street between 6.28pm and 6.32pm- view from seaward side of road Lower Lansdowne Road between 6.35pm and 6.40pm- best view from seaward side of road

In order to to facilitate the event in Portrush the East Strand car park will be closed to the public from 7am on Saturday 3nd until 9am on Monday 4 June; Sand Hill Drive Car Park will close from Friday 1st June 7pm until Monday 4th June 9am. Access to the beach at East Strand will be limited during this period. East Strand Beach will be closed to the public from the Arcadia on the westerly side and Curran Point on the easterly side from 9am Sunday on 3rd June until approximately 9:30pm that evening.

However, Whiterocks beach will be open for use from the White Rocks as far as Curran Point during these times.

Traffic will be busier than usual so make sure you allow more time for arrival and departure.

Additional car parking has been provided and all parking will be free of charge. Car parking is available at the West Bay, Dunluce Avenue and Lansdowne. There will be additional parking available from 1pm at the grass at West Bay; the grass at The Dunluce Centre; and at Kellys / Atlantis Hotel, Bushmills Road.

Holders of Blue Badges may use the disabled parking facilities at The Bowl on Causeway Street from 1pm. Please follow the event directional signs to the car parks.

On Monday 4th June, Coleraine welcomes the Olympic Torch Relay into the town for what promises to be an exciting day.

The day’s events kick off with an exhilarating start as Downtown Radio broadcast live from Coleraine Town Hall. Following an extended list of events the Olympic Torch will take to Coleraine’s waterways as the nominated Torch Bearer and Bann Rowing Club Coach, Seamus Reynolds, proudly carries the Torch on the River Bann. The best places to view the Olympic Torch in Coleraine will be: Christie Park between 1.23pm and 2.00pm – best viewed at the northern end of the park;

Castlerock Road between 2.12pm and 2.27pm – best viewed on the south-west side of the road.

The Olympic Convoy will then continue on towards Articlave passing through the village between 2.33pm and 2.43pm where it will be best viewed on the south side of the road.

Travelling further along the Torch arrives in Castlerock at 2.45pm and departs at 3.02pm with great viewing all along the route.

The final part of the journey will see the Torch run to the spectacular Downhill Beach, best viewed between 3.10pm and 3.20pm on the beach at the Mussenden end, where the Torch Bearer and convoy will be waved farewell as the Northern Flights Archery Club shoot flam-ing arrows into the sea.
